Turkey is one of the world’s leading destinations in the maritime industry, thanks to its rich nautical history and strategic geographical location. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Turkey boasts over 8,333 kilometers of coastline and 28 coastal provinces along the Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmara, and Black Seas.
This deep-rooted connection to the sea, once centered around fishing and sponge diving, has evolved into a dynamic industry — including traditional gulet manufacturing and thriving gulet charter services.
Gulet Building in Turkey

With abundant natural wood resources and a long-standing craftsmanship tradition, regions like Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, and Antalya have become hubs of gulet construction.
The traditional Turkish gulet is a globally recognized wooden yacht, handcrafted with attention to every detail. Known for their wide decks, spacious cabins, and comfortable living areas, gulets offer more room and charm than typical motor yachts.
Depending on design and size, the construction of a gulet usually takes between 1 and 3 years.
Two Options for Buying a Gulet
If you’re considering buying a gulet, there are two main paths:
- Commission a new custom-built gulet
- Purchase a second-hand gulet
While custom builds require a large investment, industry expertise, and ongoing supervision, second-hand gulets for sale offer a more accessible entry point for new buyers and investors.
Gulet Charter: Turn Your Boat Into a Business
One of the greatest advantages of buying a gulet is that you can rent it out during the summer season. This means that your investment could pay for itself in just 2–3 years.
Popular charter routes like Bodrum–Marmaris–Fethiye see high demand every year. Additionally, banks in Turkey offer favorable marine financing options, allowing you to invest without straining your cash flow.
Gulet Prices and Maintenance Costs
If you’re just starting out, you might consider purchasing a 15–18 meter gulet with 3–4 cabins. Price ranges for second-hand gulets typically start from:
- 2 million TL (for boats that may need maintenance and upgrades)
- Up to 10 million TL or more, depending on condition
Prices vary widely based on the build year, maintenance status, refit history, quality of materials, and craftsmanship.
If you opt for a gulet over 20 meters in length and with more cabins, the upper price limit increases significantly. Each gulet must be evaluated individually — and this is where expert guidance becomes essential.
